South Australia's Minister for Sport, Recreation and Racing Mr John Oswald and Federal Minister for Family Services Senator Rosemary Crowley will cut a rock-climbing rope rather than a ribbon today when they officially launch a 20-minute film Wild women never get the blues.

The film, mainly shot in South Australia at various locations around the State, took 18 months to complete. It explores ways for women of all ages to take part in recreational activities and wilderness adventures - to improve self confidence and help them take risks in other aspects of their lives.

A women in her late 60s climbing to the Crows Nest on the Failie is just one scene in the movie, which shows women learning outdoor skills such as abseiling, canoeing, surfing, cycling and scuba diving while participating in various trips, training, courses and workshops conducted by the South Australian based Women of the Wilderness Australia organisation.

Weaving through the film are short interviews with women who talk about how their experiences have changed their lives

The film, directed by South Australian feminist filmmaker Jenny Sobey and produced by Deb Nanschild, who established Wild Women of the Wilderness Australia five years ago, also features a sound-track by South Australian songwriter Helaine Costello.
